Focus on travel

Acando’s major environmental issue is travel, which affects climate change via carbon dioxide emissions. Consultancy work involves a lot of travel by public transport, car and plane. Acando works to try in various ways to reduce the extent of travel and influence employees’ choice of means of transport. To reduce travel, the organisation is encouraged to choose telephone and video conferences where possible. There are video links between the offices in Stockholm, Göteborg, Trondheim and Oslo. The objective is to equip all major offices with video conferencing systems.

Employees are also encouraged to travel by train or bus instead of plane and to choose an ecofriendly vehicle when they choose a company car. Most of Acando’s offices are centrally located near to national train and bus connections, which makes it easier for employees to take public transport. In 2008, the Göteborg office is moving closer to the central station, which makes it easier to travel by public transport and reduces dependence on cars.

Energy use and awareness of the ecocycle
In addition to reducing the impact on the environment from travel, Acando works to raise its employees’ environmental awareness and to make respect for the environment permeate its work.

The concrete measures include

Energy saving measures such as timed switch-off of lights after office hours.
Environmentally-friendly management of old IT equipment. Where possible, the equipment is disposed of for reuse. Otherwise the equipment goes to partners for dismantling and recycling.
All printers are set by default for two-sided printing and employees are urged to avoid paper printouts where possible.
Sorting of paper and other waste.
Purchases of products, consumables and services must, if possible, meet high environmental requirements.
